Stevens Square Groundbreaking Ceremony | Portland, Maine | 55+ Community in Maine | Stevens Square Info

Stevens Square Comes Alive (with VIDEO)

A Realtor, a Developer, and a Mayor walk into Stevens Square …

…and the story of Stevens Square begins. Monday, August 26th marked the official groundbreaking of something Portland, Maine has never seen, a 55+ Active Adult community.

Stevens Square Comes Alive was a monumental occasion. Legendary REALTOR Ed Gardner, award-winning Developer Kevin Bunker, and visionary Mayor of Portland Ethan Strimling spoke. Their collective message was one of synergy and community cooperation.

Here’s a video of what happened:

Lifelong friendships begin

As seen in the video, the occasion marked the start of construction on Building One. Several future homeowners were on hand and enjoyed the chance to meet each other for the first time…the beginning of some lifelong friendships.

Future homeowners Terri and Fred Benson could not attend the groundbreaking but were there in spirit. Though they currently live in Springfield, Illinois they are diehard Wisconsin fans.

Terri and Fred are a retired guidance counselor/dean and retired attorney respectively. They are active, friendly, thoughtful, detailed folks, and considered the community very thoroughly before deciding to move halfway across the country.

The experienced team; the stylish, friendly, easily walkable location; the convenience to downtown Portland; and the lower maintenance lifestyle were appealing to the Bensons. The integration of historic architecture; the direct access to nature; future amenities like fitness and gathering space; and the open, bright, modern units with under-building parking further differentiated the community for them.

Most of all, the fact that Stevens Square is a 55+ Active Adult community set it apart from other housing options like a regular neighborhood or a traditional retirement community. According to Terri, it gives them a more exciting chance to “lead full lives with an opportunity to meet people.”

The Bensons will be visiting in late October to make the design selections for their new home. They will be sharing more of their story with you then.

So stay tuned to Around the Square.

Meanwhile…Go Badgers!
